Drama costumes

Everyone went home today with an invitation to our Readers’ Theatre play presentations May 18th at 1pm. Included was information about costumes. I want to be sure that parents know that they DO NOT need to buy anything for this. I am encouraging the students to use their imaginations and to find things from around the house. I also explained that their parents DO NOT need to make anything either, unless of course the parent would really enjoy doing so.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

What is research?

That is the question the students and I have been pondering for the past week or so. We think we understand now… and we’re ready to do some research of our own.

Each student has chosen a Banff animal that they would like to write a research report about. Although we have a lot of information on most of these animals here at school, your child may ask you to help them find some additional information at home or from the public library.

It is most helpful if the texts they use for research are at their reading level. That way, students are able to work on this assignment with more success in independence.

Please know that the note-taking and report writing portion of the assignment will happen at school and so the information they collect from home should be kept in the classroom.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

We are busy rehearsing for our Fairy Tale Readers’ Theatre plays. We would love it if you could come to the school to watch us perform Friday, May 18th at 1:00pm. Invitations and more information will be sent out later this week.

Wow! We learned a lot about the animals that live in Banff. We were able to listen to their sounds, measure their tracks, and even feel their horns, antlers and fur. What a great learning adventure!

Parents please sign and return the permission form your child took home today.

Next Tuesday morning (April 24) we will be walking over to the Whyte Museum to take part in a school program called “Bears, Wolves, Cougars! Oh My!” This program helps students discover the world of wild animals. It will also serve as the perfect introduction to a research report the students will do on an animal that lives in our area.

To celebrate Earth Day, all BES students are asked to bring a “waste-free” lunch this Friday. Of course, students are encouraged to do so every day when possible. The grade 4 and 5 students will be measuring how much waste we create and eliminate.

And… we’re back!

Wow! Hard to believe we were away for two weeks. We sure haven’t wasted any time getting back into the swing of things. We’ve already written poems, read several books and completed a few math problems.

The students were asked to bring home their Social Studies work to share with their parents. They have learned so much about communities around Canada and I have asked them to share what they learned with their families.

A reminder to everyone that our swimming classes will begin next Monday afternoon. Please remember to pack your swimsuits and towels in a separate or plastic bag. We are still needing a male parent volunteer to help out the boys in the change room. Please let me know if you are able to help out.

Looking forward to a fun-filled Spring!

Happy Easter!
