This afternoon we discussed and explored different waste management options. We even created a mini dump, mini sanitary landfill and mini incinerator (holy smokes!). After weighing the pros and cons of each option, the students were asked which option they would choose if they were in charge of Banff’s waste management program. The majority chose landfill, because although it is not a perfect solution, it causes less harm to mother Earth than the other two. Of course, we all agreed that it was most important to create less waste in the first place by practising the “Three Rs”.
What would you do?!

Today was “Take Me Outside” day. A project/initiative to encourage kids to be outside, even during the school day. So… why not play some snow soccer???

Homework completed by students over the past few weeks has been corrected and sent home for review in preparation for next Tuesday’s math test.
Students should be able to:
– Sketch base ten blocks to model numbers up to 10 000.
– Write numbers in standard (5402), expanded (5000+400+2), and written form (five thousand four hundred two).
– Describe numbers (ex. 7500 is 75 hundreds. It is also 750 tens.)
– Draw a number lineand estimate the location of numbers.
– Determine what numbers are misplaced on a number line
– Sort numbers from least to greatest and from greatest to least.

Congratulations to everyone for planning, creating and presenting a “super-awesome-fantastic” arcade Thursday afternoon. It was so neat to see all of the games in action and to see the joy on the faces of the other students as they played.
Job well done everyone!
(Sorry we cannot post more photos… we don’t have written permission from students in other classes.)

We are inviting students, staff and families to come and check out our final products Thursday afternoon in the Creativity room. If you would like to bring some small change we will be donating it to a local charity. Here’s a sneak preview of some of our creations…
